Industry Doesn’t Heart New CAFE Standards

Wed, 23 Apr 2008 18:20:46 PDT
To celebrate Earth Day, Transportation Secretary Mary Peters unveiled new CAFE standards: 35.7 mpg (cars) and 28.6 mpg (trucks) and 31.8 mpg (combined) by 2015. The Detroit News (DtN) condemns the announcement for "moving the goal post." Fair enough; Congress has already mandated a CAFE standard of 35mpg by 2020. The DtN reckons compliance with the new, new standards will cost automakers $47b over the next seven years. Why bother? The ed board reckons consumers are already voting for more effic

Wed, 23 Apr 2008 18:20:46 PDT

Apparently Pipas' sliding door fixation stems from the fact "The company later this year plans to roll out the seven-passenger Flex, a 'car-based vehicle it's aiming to sell to families that don't

Negotiable or not, the American Way of Life must be extinguished….

Wed, 23 Apr 2008 11:16:05 PDT
Dandelion Salad By Jason Miller Thomas Paine’s Corner 4/22/08 (As inspired by a conversation with Derrick Jensen) “There’s got to be just more to it than this; Or tell me why do we exist?” –Iron Maiden Is the Western consumerist culture that we inflict upon the rest of the world truly the pinnacle of our evolution? If it is, I resign my membership in the human race. Though I don’t fear that I’ll be compelled to tender my resignation any time soon because our so-called “non-negotiable A

Is Dislocating Technology a Change Agent?

Sat, 19 Apr 2008 23:45:06 PDT
Until recently Hans Lodder thought that dislocating technology was something used in wars. But Gartner uses the term for IT technology that enables a completely different and better approach for business processes. Wed, 23 Apr 2008 09:32:05 PDT
News and comments from the leaders of some of the world's most powerful banks are making it hard for investors to be overly optimistic. That's putting it mildly. Sarno's Days

Wed, 23 Apr 2008 11:13:32 PDT
The first hundred. Mayor Dominic Sarno I've been meaning to post about the passing of the first 100 days of the Sarno mayoralty in Springfield. It is an arbitrary, though traditional ritual of American politics to judge a new office holder on the basis of what trends are indicated by the first one hundred days of their administration. By no means definitive nor always fair, it's still a worthwhile appraisal. Here is what I think are the most important things about Sarno's administration thu
